Time Taker

Today after school I came home, fixed food, sat down, and turned on Gears of War 2. Like most men I have an Xbox Live account which I play on quiet alot. From the time I got home (3:10) I started playing not noticing as the time flu by and ended around 7:oo. I was amazed by the fact that I was so focused on smashing people into pieces that I have wasted around 4 hours of my life, which got me thinking "how many hours of my life have been wasted on video games?" So I went on trusty google to get some sataistics and this is what i found. The average child 8 to 12 plays 13 hours of video games per week, while teens age 13 to 18 years play 14 hours of video games per week, according to the survey. Nine percent of child gamers are pathologically or clinically "addicted" to playing video games, and Japanese researchers found that playing computer games stunted the development of the frontal lobe of the brain in teenagers.

A lot of the time I do basically the same thing. I came home, get a tasty snack, walk my dogs, and play on Xbox for like 1/2 an hour or an hour. When I was younger, I played a bit more, but not too much.

I'm not really surprised that video games are stunting our mental growth. We are becoming a completely different generation, our parents didn't have anywhere close to the amount of things that we do for entertainment. As for addiction, you bet there are some people who are completely addicted. Just go on youtube, you can see some pretty ridiculous things. Video games are also becoming the social thing to do, with more and more games going online so you can interact with others.
